What We Believe

Our Mission

Our mission is to connect people to Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

What We Believe - and Why It Matters

God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

We believe in one God who exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three persons, one God, perfectly united in love.

Why this anchors our faith:

We believe this because Scripture shows us a God who is relational by nature. God creates, redeems, and sustains the world through relationship, not distance. The Trinity reminds us that love, community, and connection are not add-ons to faith—they are at the very heart of who God is.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God’s Word, inspired by the Holy Spirit and given to guide our faith and life. Scripture tells the story of God’s love for the world and His plan to redeem it through Jesus.

Why this is central to our faith:

We believe this because we need a trustworthy foundation in a constantly changing world. The Bible helps us know God’s heart, understand ourselves, and discern how to live faithfully. Through Scripture, God continues to speak, challenge, encourage, and shape us into people who reflect His love and truth.

Small Groups

We believe faith grows best in community, where people can be known, supported, and encouraged as they follow Jesus together.

Why this matters for everyday life:

We believe no one is meant to walk their faith journey alone. Small groups are where the church becomes personal, where questions are welcomed, struggles are shared, and growth happens naturally over time. In these spaces, people discover that they belong—not because they have everything figured out, but because they are loved and accepted as they are.

People and God’s Design

We believe every person is created in the image of God and deeply loved by Him. Each life has purpose, value, and dignity.

Why this shapes who we are:

We believe this because the way we see people shapes the way we treat them. Knowing that every person bears God’s image calls us to love boldly, serve humbly, and resist anything that devalues human life. At the same time, we recognize that sin has broken our relationship with God and with one another—something we cannot fix on our own.

Ministry and Mission

We believe the Church is called to serve the world with compassion, justice, and grace, sharing God’s transforming love in word and action.

Why this guides our mission:

We believe this because faith that does not move us to love others is incomplete. Jesus calls us to love God and love our neighbors—and to put that love into action. Ministry is how we live out the gospel every day, working toward the transformation of lives, communities, and the world for the glory of God.

Connecting People to Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ is the hope of the world, inviting every person into a life-changing relationship with Him and with community, where transformation happens through walking God’s path, discovering true purpose, and becoming who God created us to be.

Why it matters for our faith:

We believe that God calls us to intentionally connect people to Jesus, not just inform them about Him. Lives are transformed when people encounter Christ through authentic relationships, faithful witness, and loving community.

A Church Centered on Jesus

Welcome to First Baptist Church of Girard. We want to be known first by the kind of people we are and the kinds of lives we live as followers of Jesus. Jesus came to bring full and abundant life, and we believe that kind of life is exactly what our world needs today.

We invite all people into that life together in Jesus Christ. When we say all, we truly mean all. No matter your background, your story, or where you are on your faith journey, you are welcome here.

Statement of Faith:

We believe Jesus Christ is the living Son of God and the hope every person is searching for—whether they realize it yet or not. In Jesus, we find forgiveness, purpose, healing, and new life. When people truly encounter Him, lives are transformed from the inside out.

We believe our calling is simple and sacred: to connect people to Jesus Christ. We have seen that when people walk with Jesus, their lives are changed, their relationships grow healthier, and their future becomes filled with hope. Connecting people to Jesus doesn’t just change Sundays—it changes everyday life.

We believe the Bible is God’s living Word, and we commit to standing unwavering in Biblical truth. Scripture shapes who we are, how we live, and how we love. We hold tightly to truth while offering it with grace, humility, and care for every person’s story.

We believe the love of Christ should be visible and felt. That’s why we commit to maintaining a winsome, Christ-like spirit—one marked by kindness, compassion, honesty, and respect. We seek to reflect Jesus not only in what we say, but in how we treat people.

We believe we are not meant to walk this faith journey alone. Authentic Christian community matters. God forms us through relationships where we can be known, supported, challenged, and encouraged. In community, we grow stronger together and discover that we belong.

We believe in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, who is active and at work today. The Spirit guides us, empowers us, convicts us, comforts us, and transforms us. We depend on God’s Spirit to lead our church and shape our lives.

We believe in a ministry of “re-membering.” God restores what has been broken—bringing people back into relationship with Him, reconnecting them with one another, and reminding them of their God-given worth and purpose. No one is forgotten, and no one is beyond God’s restoring grace.

We believe the future is filled with hope. Because God is faithful, we move forward with joyful optimism, trusting that God is still calling people, still changing lives, and still building something beautiful through His church.

Above all, we believe that connecting people to Jesus changes everything—and we are committed to living that mission together.
